Freezing Cold

We have had the privilege of being in St. Louis when it reached the coldest temperatures in 10 years. Luckily, for me, I stay at home with the girls and don't go out too much. At least I thought I was lucky. I keep my house pretty cold because our gas bills are crazy expensive. Since I keep the main floor at 65, I am used to being cold. However, last Thursday I felt even colder than usual. I went and looked at the thermostat and it read 55. I tried to turn up the thermostat to see if it would do anything and it didn't. Our heater went out on the coldest day. I called Trevor and he came home and looked at the furnace with no luck of being able to do something. We then called my brother Derek to see if he had any good advice. Derek was able to diagnose the problem, but it wasn't anything that we could fix. Trevor then called our landlord who told us that he wished we had called earlier, as if I sat in a freezing house all day but waited until after hours to bother him just to be an inconvenience. Our landlord sent over an HVAC man and he agreed with Derek's diagnosis but wasn't able to get the part that night. Luckily, our landlord offered to put us in a hotel for the night. My only criteria was that there be breakfast in the morning. He found a room for us and at 9:30 at night, we took our cold children outside into the freezing cold. The hotel room was nice and we turned the heat way up because we could. The next day after they fixed our furnace I came home to a house that was about 30 degrees. I sat their for a while and then decided we couldn't sit and wait for our house to get up to heat so I went to a friends house. At 5:00 p.m. our house finally got to 58. By the next morning we finally got our house up to heat. We have all thawed out and survived. The pictures are of the girls at our house in the cold before we left for the hotel.

Sofia and Adrienne with Tylenol bottles. These are their favorite toys right now. They fight over them if they don't have their own.

Cute background, but crazy story. I'm so glad that we have a new furnace and don't really have to worry about it going out. I can't believe you an even stand your house being 65 degrees. I would freeze! We love you guys and are glad that everything's all better now.

What an adventure. I'm glad you all survived. What sort of activities do you do with your kids?

Ours went out last year in Idaho...I can truly sympathize! It sounds so nice and cozy to be tucked into an all expense paid hotel with all the heat you want at no charge...hope the breakfast was extra yummy!

I can't believe how big the girls are getting, and so adorable! We sure miss you! It was great talking to Trevor on Sunday, even if he had to call. I am glad your heater got fixed! You know me, I do not like to be cold and I would have had a hard time. We love you!

Wow! That's a crazy story. I'm glad you're warm now. We haven't even turned on our heater since we moved to LA a year and a half ago. (I think it got to about 50 last night outside. . .)We're definitely going to move somewhere with winter next. I like the season changes, but I'll enjoy this weather while I have it.

Burrr..I'm glad you guys survived! I can't believe it was 30 in your house! I don't want to make you mad, but it was 70 degrees in Denver two days this week....Lucky us, I know.
