Family Home Evening

Well, the impossible has happened today. I have 3 sleeping children. I am really enjoying the moment and am taking a little time for myself. YEAH!! Last night we had FHE. Tori really likes it. It's nice to be settled in a place and get back to our routines. We found out in Utah that we had not had family home evening in a while when Tori pointed to a picture of Joseph Smith and called him Jesus Smith. Tori now remembers what we do on Monday nights. We yell, "Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray, Smith Family!" Then we sing a song, say a prayer, hold pictures, sing a song, and say a closing prayer. We know that she knows this is the order because occasionally when we tell her it's time for FHE she will go through our routine by herself. She is smart! Last night we added a part to our routine. Trevor and Erin came up with words that define their family from the letters KOBE. It is their family motto. We wanted to come up with our own words that define our Smith family. So the words under Smobe Scoop are what we stand for. Now we just need to stay diligent in doing our FHE over the years so that the kids will know what they stand for.

I am posting some pictures of Tori and the twins. We already bought Tori's Halloween costume. One of Tori's favorite books is Alice the Fairy (Thanks Grandma Smith). This year she is going to be Alice the Fairy. She has wings, a skirt, tiara, and a wand. She has played some with the costume, but is currently not allowed to play with the wand because she thinks it needs to be waved around in the twins faces. She has made contact with them more than a time or two. We'll see if she can be better on halloween.

Chicken Soup=Simmer chicken (cut up fryer or a bunch of legs/wings) with water, carrots, celery, and onions for 1.5-2 hours. Strain. Debone chicken, set meat aside. Noodles= 2T half and half (or whole milk), 1 cup flour, 1 egg, 1 tsp salt. Mix well and roll out as thin as possible (1/16 of an inch) use flour somewhat liberally to keep it from sticking to the counter and flip it over after each time you roll it. Let it dry for 20 minutes or so. Cut noodles to a thin width 1/8" or so and about 2.5 inches long. Let noodles dry for 20 minutes again. Bring strained broth to a boil and season it to taste with salt and pepper and bullion (sp?) (I usually use 5 cubes or a couple T of chicken base). Then put in noodles and cook for 20 minutes. You can add new carrots and celery when you start cooking the noodles if you want to, the broth veggies are too mushy. Add chicken to noodles/broth. Make mashed potatoes at some point while noodles are cooking or drying. About 5-10 minutes before serving, add sour cream to taste (about 1/4-1/2 cup or less) or each person can add it to their own bowl instead of putting it in all of the soup.
